Violence Reduction Manager

Job Introduction

HMP Northumberland are recruiting for a Violence Reduction Manager.

You will be responsible for the delivery of actions relating to the Violence Reduction Strategy. You will work in Partnership with the Deputy Director, Residence, OMU and Security to ensure services and local practices meet the needs of the population.

HMP Northumberland offers a variety of initiatives and programmes to help residents engage within the prison’s rehabilitative culture. This includes various educational and vocational qualifications, as well as a variety of opportunities for residents to learn new skills within our workshops and industries departments. We have textile, engineering and electrical workshops and can offer prisoners experience in horticulture, market gardens, cleaning, waste management and laundry services on site.

As a working prison, we work towards the resettlement of residents upon their release into the community and their integration into society through the skills acquired while in our care. We are committed to supporting people to change their lives for the better and lead law-abiding lives.

Being over 4 miles in circumference, the prison is a vast space with exceptionally kept plantation and currently houses over 1300 residents with a range of sentence terms.

Role Responsibility

  • Have personal oversight of the investigations into violent incidents made by staff throughout the establishment ensuring the following:
  • Correct and early identification of victim and perpetrator
  • Legitimate execution of measures to safeguard victims and control perpetrators
  • Correct and timely referral to the police using agreed investigation template and follow up to ensure adjudication is safeguarded as a viable option should police return a decision of No Further Action from the CPS perspective
  • Contribute to the police referral process including appropriate investigation, evidence gathering, referral liaising with police and supporting victims and perpetrators.
  • In assessing residents you will gain key intelligence as to those residents who have a history of involvement in large scale supply and Organised Crime Groups. In these cases you will oversee the passing on of that intelligence to the Intelligence Hub.
  • Maintain a running list of the “Top 10” most likely to assault another person 

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience of a custodial environment and ability to apply prison rules legitimately.
  • Project Management desirable
  • Strong Communication skills and use of IT 

Package Description

£28,300 - £30,000 per annum - 12 months contract
