Tutor (Joinery)

The c30-strong Learning & Activities Department caters for a wide range of educational and vocational needs for the 700 prisoners and seeks to invest in a passionate, open-minded, patient and innovative Tutor to join the team. Reporting to the Trades Team Leader, the role is diverse, thought-provoking and challenging/rewarding in equal measure.
Role Responsibility
- Develop the curriculum, predominantly in Joinery, to cater for varying levels of knowledge and aptitudes within the prisoner population
- Create innovative lesson plans to engage and retain prisoner attention and attendance
- Report on prisoner progress and collaborate with colleagues to improve sentence management, increase academic attainment and prepare prisoners for release
- Encourage, support and sustain prisoners seeking to gain qualifications
- Ensure compliance with relevant SQA teaching, quality assurance and testing/assessment guidelines
- Evening and weekend work will be required

You will also need to undertake training in order to become badged as a PCO
The Ideal Candidate
Experience required:
- We need Tutors with extensive previous experience in educational, training or learning role, predominantly delivering Joinery Skills
- Sound knowledge of SQA Construction award requirements
- An appropriate qualification at SCQF Level 8/9 or equivalent.
- A good understanding of Scottish Learning Frameworks
- Evidence of the ability to build relationships across the classroom, department and prison as a whole

Package Description
