Senior Engineer - Estates

Job Introduction

The purpose of the role is to supervise and support the Estates team in the completion of reactive repairs, planned maintenance tasks and any associated remedial and installation work to external hard assets and infrastructure. The role will also supervise and support the waste service delivery site wide across Colchester Garrison. The Garrison is a 185 hectare site containing 150 buildings that vary from accommodation to maintenance facilities.

 

Role Responsibility

  • Supervise Estates  team and carry out where  required all Estates related works including :
  • General building / Civils repairs and planned maintenance duties to external assets & Infrastructure including but not limited to: Roads, Footpaths, Hardstandings, Street furniture, External signage, Trunk drainage, Water mains, Waste compounds etc.
  • Support the team to deliver Waste service functions as and when required – bin cleaning /emptying, repairs, cleaning / jetting compounds Litter picking, Road sweeping, Gully emptying, Litter picking etc.
  • To be fully conversant with all aspects of General building / Ground working   & Building fabric construction work.
  • Carry out and supervise pre planned maintenance activities, ensuring completion of all the necessary documentation in accordance with set SLA’s and contractual requirements.
  • Enforce safe working within team and others in accordance with H&S legislation following Sodexo policy and procedures.
  • Liaise with customers to arrange appointments, access arrangements, discuss work. etc.
  • Carry out and complete all works to high quality and in a competent manner with the property being left in a clean and tidy condition            
  • Liaise with other staff as necessary to ensure the timely completion of works within agreed operational targets
  • Must be experienced in working with different materials, including: concrete, asphalt, brick / blockwork, timber, metal, plastic, composites.
  • Work to include experience in groundwork’s and drainage, plastering and brickwork, concreting, painting and decorating, aspects of plumbing, high pressure water jetting.
  • Undertake training for working at height and confined spaces working.
  • Must be able to work alone and follow lone working procedures.
  • Undertake all duties and responsibilities as instructed by Line Manager.
  • Carry out jetting of various locations in accordance with schedules – Hardstandings, Drainage Channels Gully pots etc.
  • Supervise the recording, documentation and data logging of work onto the asset management database to give real time information of reactive and planned works.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential:

  • A recognised apprenticeship within trade specific discipline
  • E.g. NVQ level 2 Construction Operations City & Guilds, ONC ,OND          
  • Good verbal, numerate, interpersonal and computer skills
  • Personally motivated with initiative, flexibility, and innovation to continually develop skills.
  • A good Knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation and COSHH.
  • To participate in Sodexo out of hour’s emergency service and willing to work overtime if required.
  • Willing to undertake Waste management development training
  • Have a good knowledge with working on the following: Asphalt, Tarmac, Overseal banding, Line marking Concreting, Foul /SW Drainage, Brickwork, Carpentry.
  • Willingness to undertake suitable and relevant person development training as required of role and department
  • Must hold full driving license with at least 2 years driving experience.

Desirable:

  • Road sweeping license
  • Forklift driving license
  • Manual Handling
  • Sodexo Managing Safely or equivalent H&S training
  • Working experience within an MoD site
  • Knowledge of Waste regulations
