Semi Skilled FM Tradesman

Job Introduction

HMP Northumberland offers a variety of initiatives and programmes to help residents engage within the prison’s rehabilitative culture. This includes various educational and vocational qualifications, as well as a variety of opportunities for residents to learn new skills within our workshops and industries departments. We have textile, engineering and electrical workshops and can offer prisoners experience in horticulture, market gardens, cleaning, waste management and laundry services on site.

Being over 4 miles in circumference, the prison is a vast space with exceptionally kept plantation and currently houses over 1300 residents with a range of sentence terms.

Role Responsibility

  • Maintain, and repair various equipment and parts, benefitting to the good up keep and infrastructure of HMP Northumberland. This position requires basic knowledge of electrical / mechanical components as well as safety codes and regulations.
  • Must be professional, practical, and proficient.
  • The work of a Semi Skilled Tradesman can often be physically demanding. In order to install and repair equipment, they may need to crawl, climb, and stand for extended periods of time. Must also be able to operate power tools and take control of tool security.
  • Semi-Skilled Operatives must also be able to understand and make decisions based on manufacturer’s documents, such as schematics and operational instructions.
  • Semi-Skilled Operatives must also be motivated to work on their own and as part of a team. Strong communication skills are a necessary part of this position

Package Description

Salary £21712.11 per annum

Excellent benefits including free onsite parking, shopping discounts, pension and 28 days holiday (including Bank Holidays).  37.5 hour shift pattern working week.
