Scientific Support Team Leader

Job Introduction

We currently have an opportunity for a Scientific Support Team Leader to join our team. This is a great opportunity for a customer focused individual to join a world leading food and facilities management company, which can offer unrivalled opportunities for career progression.

Role Responsibility

  • To manage their team in the overall provision and delivery of high quality scientific support (laboratory & procurement). Approximately 25% of time will be spent on lab/scientific support duties with the remainder of time spent on oversight of the team
  • To be responsible for managing the training, development and safety of all reporting staff, dealing with operational and performance issues within the team with escalation to line management as appropriate
  • To assist in the recruitment process of suitable personnel into the team and to carry out suitable induction and training (including ‘GREAT’ training and on the job) programmes. Ensure training package is suitable and sufficient and that the whole team are cross trained in all elements of service delivery
  • Support the site in meeting performance targets, ensuring action plans are in place and completed for any normal conformance
  • Monitor all VOC/VOP with proactive resolution of complaints and appropriate recognition of good work by the team
  • Ensure team compliance with regards to all mandatory training such as GXP, safety, specific area rules and regulations
  • Carry out half yearly and annual PDRs and provide coaching as necessary. Look for development opportunities for staff members
  • Ensure the welfare of team members and provide support to staff where necessary
  • To work in conjunction with and provide support to the Scientific Support Manager with regards to introducing new procedures, processes and best practice
  • To engage with customer groups to discuss their requirements and enhance services
  • To ensure timely and accurate reporting of data including performance metrics
  • To manage a weekly comm cell and to provide information to the Scientific Support Manager.

     

    Laboratory & scientific support duties will include:

  • Providing a general induction/orientation for new GSK staff members
  • Providing support for infrastructure, engineering, purchasing, IT and other service requests; reporting of faults and ensuring these are closed out in a timely fashion
  • Providing support for equipment maintenance/repair; liaison with LIS (Laboratory Instrument Support).
  • To oversee consumable management through ordering of stocks from external suppliers & on site stores.
  • To coordinate the working environment including space and availability of PPE, the removal of waste from labs & the provision of lab services (e.g., laboratory cleaning).
  • To maintain lab documentation as necessary
  • To carry out all requests and tasks in a helpful and professional manner, building relationships with key staff and consistently demonstrate good customer service
  • To adhere to all company & client policies, procedures, site rules and regulations
  • To comply with all company procedures relating to health and safety and safe working practises
  • To represent and promote the company wherever possible
  • To attend all training sessions as required of the post and ensure this training is documented in personal training file
  • To perform other reasonable duties as deemed necessary by the line manager

The Ideal Candidate

  • Education to ‘A’ Level standard or equivalent in a Science subject, with minimum qualification of four GCSEs grades A-C including Science, Maths and English
  • Demonstrable supervisory experience essential
  • Excellent team player with experience in a high-quality customer service operation
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Self-motivated with ability to work under pressure with conflicting deadlines
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Experience in using databases and ordering systems
  • writing technical procedures (SOPs, Work Instructions) and safety related documents (Risk Assessments)
  • Ability to train new staff and to give guidance to team members
  • Knowledge of 5S and lean principles
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Strong knowledge of health & safety

    Desirable

  • Experience within the pharmaceutical industry
  • Knowledge of chemicals and safe handling
  • Experience of working in a compliance driven environment
