Prisoner Custody Officer (PCO)

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

All female prison HMP & YOI Bronzefield is a unique place. A community of women living together in exceptional circumstances. Each cell a home. Each woman an individual with her own story and her own challenges. Each requiring a unique and supportive approach to her rehabilitation. That’s where you come in.

It takes a special kind of person to work with us – listening, talking, caring, being there – it’s all part of the job. And building relationships in a non-judgmental way to help prisoners change their lives for the better. The safety, security and wellbeing of visitors, colleagues and the women in your care are your priority. And there’s nothing more rewarding than helping someone out of prison and back into work and the world outside.

Please note applications will only be accepted from candidates who have not applied within the last 6 months.

Role Responsibility

Make no mistake though, it’s a challenge. You have to be strong, firm and resilient. You need to maintain boundaries and deal with stressful situations, helping prevent incidents of violence, suicide and self-harm – always with care and humanity. There’s also a strict structure to prison life that you have to work within, on a shift pattern. It’s not for everyone. You’re either born to it, or you’re not.

The Ideal Candidate

We’re not looking for experience but if this sounds like you, get in touch and apply. We’ll provide full training and you’ll be part of a large, supportive team, with career progression opportunities. We’re willing to consider part-time and flexible working arrangements too. A prison that protects communities both inside and outside our walls, we win awards for the quality of our care. So join us and make a difference.
