Job Introduction

 

  • Move and set up furniture, television/audio-visual equipment, and IT equipment used within the Premises as directed. The ability to assemble and disassemble the equipment is essential.
  • Carry out daily checks and respond to minor problems involving static IT equipment installed within some of the meeting rooms.
  • Be the first point of contact for minor problems with equipment or replacement of office consumables for equipment such as multi-function devices printers and fax machines. This shall include the replacement of toner cartridges, replenishing of paper and clearing of paper jams etc. but not involving mechanical or electrical failures with the equipment.
  • Rearrange furniture and equipment within meeting rooms, committee rooms and other areas of the Premises for events and business throughout the year.
  • Build and dismantle office furniture and assist with its relocation as instructed by the SPCB.
  • Facilitate the movement of goods to and from the Premises using the client owned and insured vehicle
  • Responsible for routine maintenance and safety checks (maintenance and monitoring of fluid levels, tyres, lights etc) of the SPCB van to ensure it is maintained and kept in working order.
  • Deliver bulky items and or packages of 11kgs and above, across the Premises in addition to other required destinations such as MSP constituency offices across the Central Belt, Borders and South of Inverness as a minimum
  • Assist with the management of the offsite storage facility the SPCB uses. This will require to assist with inventories, delivery and collection of items to the facility as well as organising the storage units.
  • Flag flying – this involves the raising and lowering of flags for events etc throughout the year.
  • Help with the setting up of events and exhibitions
  • Moving of art work – there may be occasions when some of the art work throughout the Premises requires to be moved. This would be done only under the supervision of the Parliament’s art curator or specialist contractor.
  • Moving of key equipment, documents or other such items damaged or at risk of damage from an On-site incident such as flood or fire. This might be done in conjunction with the emergency services.
  • Escort visitors/contractors around the Premises – there are occasions when the Core-Team Personnel would be required to escort visitors or contractors who are not security cleared around the Premises.
  • Conduct inventories/surveys of storerooms and FM equipment – this task requires to be carried out periodically to ensure that storeroom inventories held internally and externally are accurate.
  • Collect mail bags from St Andrews House, Scottish Government building in Edinburgh, and deliver to the mail room at the Premises.
  • Load and unload vehicles at the loading bay of Holyrood. This includes but is not limited to; the SPCB van, contractor vehicles, general deliveries, equipment for events and exhibitions.

  • Undertake all allocated tasks and perform them in a timely and professional manner.
  • Undertake training and appointment as a Competent Person in appropriate disciplines.
  • Be proactive to identify and report faults with site equipment and take steps to resolve.
  • Be proactive to ensure all H&S issues are reported/escalated as required.
  • Maintain informal communications with Client staff members related to service levels and issues.
  • Report service affecting issues to the site management team for formal communication with the client
  • Remain flexible with regards to site attendance and tasks undertaken within personal competency.
  • Be fully aware of relevant Health and Safety and general legislative matters.
  • Assume responsibility for ensuring compliance with all relevant Health and Safety legislation and site specific health, safety and welfare policies.
  • You must ensure that you do not act in any way that endangers your health and safety or that of others. Failure to comply with the requirements of this clause may result in disciplinary action being taken against you, which may include your dismissal or notice.
  • All accidents and unsafe situations must be reported immediately and accidents recorded in the Accident Book.
  • If we give you safety equipment, protective clothing or footwear you must use it. Clothing and overalls must be kept clean.
  • You must attend health and safety training as instructed by your manager to ensure that risks in the workplace are reduced.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Must fulfil the necessary SPCB vetting requirements
  • Must be physically capable of completing all tasks within possible realms of reasonable adjustment being made where necessary
  • Full clean driving license (preferable)
  • Be flexible and responsive to the changing daily priorities
  • Ability to be able to work additional hours as requested to meet the business demands, including evenings and weekends
  • Able to work on own and as part of a team to fulfil works in a ‘best in class’ environment
 

Customer focused in service delivery and able to communicate eloquently face to face and via radio

 

 

Package Description

Candidates are required to work an average working week of 41 hours Mon-Fri. During recess there is a fixed shift pattern of 08.30-17.00 Mon-Fri, the remainder of the year is on a rota basis but essentially as a working group of 5 there will be

Monday – 4 persons working. 3 on 07.30-16.00 and 1 on 07.30-17.00

Tuesday – 4 persons working 07.30-18.00 – 1 person 07.30-16.00

Wednesday – 4 persons working 07.30-18.00 – 1 person 07.30-16.00

Thursday – 4 persons working 07.30-18.00 – 1 person 07.30-16.00

Friday – 4 persons working. 3 on 07.30-15.00 and 1  on 07.30-17.00
