Operational Accounting Manager (CIMA/ACA/ACCA)

Job Introduction

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Operational Accounting Manager to head up the Energy & Resources finance team of three in shared services based in Salford. You will provide  excellent leadership, support and development to the reporting finance team, create strong business partnerships with segment, central finance and operational teams. You will be a qualified accountant (CIMA/ACA/ACCA) with extensive team management experience, effective stakeholder management experience in a matrix management environment and experience of working with SAP or other large ERP system. Role Responsibility

  • Manage the Operational Accounting team; providing support and development opportunities through regular 1-2-1 discussion, team meetings, annual appraisals and the EPA process.
  • Through your team, manage the output from the month end process ensuring production and release of timely and accurate client invoices.
  • Manage P&L accounting activities for the segment; providing accurate and timely management accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Manage the completion & review of accurate monthly balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring reconciling items are understood and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Provide support to Head of Management Accounts, FD’s, FC; segment finance team & Account Directors in preparation for and attendance at review meetings.
  • Support BSS and wider finance team with continuous improvement projects and initiatives.
  • Create business partner relationships across BSS, with segment finance, operational teams and Account Directors or equivalent.
  • Support with segment forecasting/budgeting (as required) in line with Group requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards; BSS processes and internal controls at all times.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified Accountant (CIMA/ACA/ACCA)
  • Graduate calibre
  • Experience of working with SAP or other large ERP system
  • Extensive team management experience
  • Effective stakeholder management experience in a matrix management environment
  • Delivery of accounting activities in an accurate timely manner
  • Effectively manage responsibilities and workload in a fast-paced business environment
  • Excellent Communication skills including the ability to translate complex financial processes/arrangements into simplified non-financial terms
  • Ability to adapt to change, acting in a positive ‘change agent’ role
  • Champion best practice approach and sharing of ideas
