Mess Manager (hotel services, hospitality, food and beverage)

Job Introduction

As Mess Manager at the Ousefield House Officers Mess, you'll perform and supervise the day to day activities, ensuring your team are engaged, motivated and getting the most from their role.

Are you frustrated having to work every weekend, long hours and split shifts, not being able to spend time with family & friends, but this comes with working in the hospitality sector, doesn't it? Not with Sodexo, we value our colleagues' quality of life - this role is predominately a Monday to Friday working role with occasional evening and weekends.

You'll promote and manage functions including planning, menus and costing in conjunction with the catering team.  Our functions range from Family Fun Days and BBQ's, but there are many more Fine Dining/high end Dinners due to the nature of this site. Prestigious and high profile, Imphal Barracks is the Headquarters which is also home to the Major General.  We also provide accommodation services to c12 Mess members who live in.

Role Responsibility

  • Perform and supervise the day to day activities of the Mess, to the benefit of all members and residents
  • Promote and manage functions including planning, menus and costing in conjunction with the catering team
  • Ensure standards of service detailed in the contract are achieved, maintained and developed
  • Liaise with the key stakeholders (PMC/RSM) and mess committee to develop relationships and promote Sodexo
  • Plan, organise and manage delivery of all services within the Mess operational business area
  • Contribute to the growth of all services in order to meet client and commercial expectations whilst maintaining strict budgetary control within operational business area in line with client and Sodexo expectations
  • Embrace the principles of Collaborative Business Relationships (BS11000), in line with Sodexo’s vision and values
  • Manage all aspects of performance of an assigned group of direct reports

The Ideal Candidate

  • Proven experience in hospitality sector, including stock management, cash control and customer service
  • Proven track record of leading, managing and developing a team
  • Proven experience of managing client relationships
  • Good numerical and communication skills, must be able to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication
  • Management knowledge of health & safety and food safety
  • Able to work on own initiative within a team environment
  • Able to demonstrate working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Able to demonstrate attention to detail and adherence to standards
  • Able to analyse problems analytically, develop opportunities and implement innovative solutions

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a similar role within the service industry at a comparable level in a company
  • IOSH and CIEH qualifications or equivalent
  • Experience of working within a Military environment 
  • Experience of large scale and scope hotel operation
