Mess Manager (hospitality; F&B)

Job Introduction

As Mess Manager (F&B, Catering/Hospitality) you'll perform and supervise the day to day activities in our Mess at one of our defence contracts.

You will promote and manage functions including planning, menus and costing in conjunction with the catering team - ensuring standards of service are achieved, maintained and developed.

Our functions range from Family Fun Days and BBQ's, to fine dining/high end Dinners  We often have VIP visitors to the site and it is one which is heavily involved during ceremonial season.

Role Responsibility

  • Perform and supervise the day to day activities of the Mess, to the benefit of all members and residents
  • Promote and manage functions including planning, menus and costing in conjunction with the catering team
  • Ensure standards of service detailed in the contract/schedule of requirements (SOR) and quantity tables are achieved, maintained and developed
  • Liaise with the key stakeholders/client leads and the Mess Committee to develop relationships and promote Sodexo
  • Ensure your team of seven are engaged, motivated and getting the most from their contribution.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Proven experience in hospitality sector, including stock management, cash control and customer service
  • Proven experience of working in a similar role within the service industry at a comparable level in a company highly desirable
  • Good numerical and communication skills, must be able to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication
  • Supervisory experience
  • Management knowledge of health & safety and food safety
  • Able to work on own initiative within a team environment
  • Able to demonstrate attention to detail and adherence to standards
  • Able to analyse problems analytically, develop opportunities and implement innovative solutions
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)

Desirable

  • IOSH and CIEH qualifications or equivalent
  • Proven experience of managing client relationships
  • Proven track record of leading, managing and developing a team
  • Experience of working in a military environment
