Mess Manager (F&B, hospitality, high profile MOD site)

Job Introduction

As Mess Manager you'll coordinate and supervise the day to day activities of the college, to the benefit of all members and residents

The Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) instructs senior officers of the Armed Forces and Civil Service in defence and international security matters at the highest level, to prepare them for the top posts. It forms part of the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom.

A unique opportunity, as there are many overseas attendees and VIP visitors with official functions and ad-hoc private events held at this high profile site.

Role Responsibility

  • Coordinate and  supervise the day to day activities of the college, to the benefit of all members and residents
  • Promote and manage functions including planning, menus and costing in conjunction with the catering team
  • Ensure standards of service detailed in the schedule of requirements (SOR) and quantity tables are achieved, maintained and developed
  • Liaise with the PMC/RSM and mess committee to develop relationships and promote Sodexo
  • You will also support the Services Manager to manage the Royal Guards room as act as weekend Duty Manager on a rota basis
  • Occasional evening and weekends to oversee functions

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience of working in a similar role within the service industry at a comparable level in a company
  • Proven experience in hospitality sector, including stock management, cash control and customer service, ideally with supervisory responsibilities
  • Good numerical and communication skills, must be able to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication
  • Management knowledge of health & safety and food safety
  • Able to work on own initiative within a team environment
  • Able to demonstrate working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Able to demonstrate attention to detail and adherence to standards
  • Able to aalyse problems analytically, develop opportunities and implement innovative solutions

Desirable

  • IOSH and CIEH qualifications or equivalent
  • Proven experience of managing client relationships
  • Proven track record of leading, managing and developing a team
  • Experience of working in a military environment
