Maintenance Operative

Job Introduction

HMP Peterborough are currently recruiting for a Maintenance Operative.

You will be required to maintain the prison estate, facilities and systems to a high standard. To fulfil the conditions for cell certification and carry out effective maintenance and repairs that contribute to a safe, reliable and efficient maintenance regime within the Prison estate. 

HMP Peterborough is the first purpose-built prison in the UK to house both men and women on the same site. This highly innovative prison is designed to a high standard of physical security. Sodexo Justice Services has ensured that the prison provides needs-based personal development services for both men and women.  January 2015 saw the completion of a new houseblock on the male estate which can house an additional 292 residents, along with an educational activities building.

Sodexo Justice delivers custodial and community rehabilitation services that challenge offending behaviour, protect the public and offer individuals the opportunity to change their lives for the better. We deliver the total operation of five prisons within England, Scotland and Wales and own six Community Rehabilitation Companies in partnership with crime reduction charity Nacro.

Role Responsibility

  • Provide the maintenance function for the prison as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Comply with National Security Framework, with particular emphasis on areas of security of tools, equipment, locks, keys and resources.
  • Comply with all Sodexo Justice Services policies and procedures, in particular the regulations regarding Health & Safety.
  • Undertake any training as required.
  • Be available on a rota basis for emergency call outs or critical system failures.
  • Work efficiently by co-operation with colleagues in all areas of the prison.
  • Compile accurate and appropriate job sheets after completion of any task or assignment.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Possess a solid maintenance background as a tradesman and must have some formal experience,
  • Be able to use IT to a good standard e.g. Microsoft Office
  • Exercise confidentiality and discretion at all times.
  • Possess good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Be a team player
  • Proven experience in a similar role

Package Description

Up to £26,738.28 per annum depending upon experience plus benefits including 28 days holiday (inclusive of bank holidays),pension, discounted health cover, subsidised gym membership, childcare voucher scheme, free meals on duty and free on-site parking

You will be required to work the following shifts every 10 weeks (1 week early, 2 half days weekend, 4 late shift, 7 nights on call)
