Maintenance Operative - Plumber

Job Introduction

HMP Bronzefield are currently recruiting for a Maintenance Operative - Plumber.

As a Maintenance Operative - Plumber, you will work as part of a team to undertake assigned planned preventative maintenance and reactive works efficiently across various trades but primarily plumbing and in accordance with Company values, contractual requirements, relevant legislation and best practice.

We house up to 572 women (approximately 14.5% of the national female prison population). The women in our custody have a diverse and complex set of needs and range from mothers and babies, young offenders, life and long term sentenced women, short to mid-term sentenced women, foreign nationals and women on remand. HMP/YOI Bronzefield is a closed local prison serving courts across the South of England. Our mission is to deliver quality of life services which make a meaningful difference to women in the criminal justice system by supporting them to change their lives for the better. To achieve this we focus on providing needs-based services and programmes to rehabilitate and improve the well-being of our women.

We deliver safe, effective and innovative custodial and community rehabilitation services that challenge offending behaviour, protect the public and offer individuals the opportunity to change their lives for the better. We deliver the total operation of five prisons within the UK and own six Community Rehabilitation Companies in partnership with crime reduction charity Nacro.

Role Responsibility

  • Completing assigned PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance) works and associated administration (eg. Cleaning shower heads, cleaning drains, checking water temperatures, completing tasks and documentation to achieve L8 water management / Legionella prevention. 
  • Attend to general maintenance assigned reactive / small works requests (eg. minor repairs to building fabric, affixing pictures / noticeboards, unblocking sinks and traps, unblocking toilets, gutter clearance, (occasionally snow clearance, gritting and moving equipment/furniture/waste).
  • Observing and reporting faults.
  • Participate in Out of Hours Emergency Response
  • Support project works
  • Escort contractors
  • Conduct routine inspections of designated areas within the Prison to identity defects and Health and safety concerns and resolve or escalate as appropriate
  • Assist trade qualified staff in tasks as required
  • Use the computerised Service desk system to manage reactive work requests
  • Provide assistance as required within other teams in the FM Department on an ad-hoc basis
  • Achieve Purposeful Activity targets and provide performance reports and improvement programmes

The Ideal Candidate

  • Completed a plumbing apprenticeship
  • Have proven experience in a plumbing maintenance role 
  • Experience of general maintenance in a corporate environment
  • Good working knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation relevant to property maintenance
  • Ability to work individually and take ownership of tasks to completion
  • Good communication skills
  • Reliable
  • Creative and innovative

Package Description

£25,972.27 per annum + £287.75 London weighting recurring every month.
