Logistics (Stores) Manager

Job Introduction

HMP Peterborough are currently recruiting for a Logistics (Stores) Manager.

You will provide support the Head of Business Management in the running of the Stores area and provide the quality of services to internal and external stakeholders whilst also making sure that demanding targets are met

HMP/YOI Peterborough is the country’s only purpose-built prison for both male and female prisoners (kept separate at all times), including a 12-place mother and baby unit. We are committed to offering education and development programmes to provide residents with the skills required to enter employment on release, so reducing the chances of further offending. Providing creative outlets, such as workshop activities, helps to equip those in custody for when they are released. We use ‘Restorative Approaches’ to bring people in conflict into dialogue. Using a skilled and structured process, those who have been harmed have an opportunity to be heard and those that have caused the harm are held to account for what they have done. We have strong links with the community outside through a variety of partnerships, including our outreach activity Outside Links’ offering support and advice to both residents and their families.

Role Responsibility

  • Liaise with suppliers and develop a good working relationship.
  • Ensure the timely raising of purchase orders.
  • Obtain signed receipts for all items delivered within the prison (excluding Kitchen deliveries).
  • Ensure the timely delivery of stores to Residential and Support Service areas of the prison.
  • Ensure the timely delivery of canteens to Residents weekly.
  • Operate a “just in time” (JIT) replenishment system, keeping accurate records of all stock items held in stores, informing the Business Manager when existing stocks are running low.
  • Ensure that staff uniform is ordered and issued in line with company policy and that the “points system” is maintained and recorded.
  • Participate in the monthly stocktake.
  • Work closely with the Logistics Supervisor.
  • Work closely and co-operate with colleagues in other areas to ensure the safe and smooth running of the prison.
  • Ensure that the Health & Safety manual is complied with.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Strong communication skills both oral and written.
  • Previous management experience.
  • Proven background in managing suppliers.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and meet targets and to respond effectively to changing priorities.

Desirable

  • Relevant experience in a Procurement role and or prison environment is desirable along with including any relevant procurement qualifications.

Package Description

Salary £32,800 per annum

Benefits including 28 days holiday (inclusive of bank holidays),pension, discounted health cover, subsidised gym membership, childcare voucher scheme, free meals on duty and free on-site parking
