Logistics Manager

Job Introduction

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your logistics career. Reporting to the Technical/Operations Director at Tillery Valley Foods, you will be responsible for ensuring that the right products are delivered to the right locations (client and depot alike) on time, to the quality required, in the most effective way by overseeing the dispatch, distribution and transportation of goods from Tillery Valley to the client or associated Tillery Depot.

The role will be required to travel to the depot sites in Cambridge/Goole /Croydon and may be required on occasion to work occasional weekend and evening / early morning shift to oversee all staff.

 

Role Responsibility

  • Plan, manage and evaluate logistics operations liaising with internal stakeholders, suppliers, logistics providers, transportation companies and customers
  • Create and implement best practice logistics principles, policies and processes across the business to improve operational and financial performance
  • Negotiate rates and contracts with transportation and logistics providers
  • Recommend optimal transport modes, routes or frequencies
  • Resolve problems concerning transportation, logistics systems, or customer issues in liaison with the other operational department leads
  • Review impact of logistics changes, such as routing, product volumes, and report results to the operational leads
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and identify inefficiencies and cost optimisation opportunities
  • Ensure the integrity of inventory accuracy and manage stock movements through the direct reports
  • Identify and resolve any inventory discrepancies and ensure inventory and system  records are in agreement
  • Manage, coach and develop a high performing team that meets agreed objectives and delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvement
  • Responsible for site Security operations, including CCTV and manned guarding – Registered with the Information Commissioner

The Ideal Candidate

  • CPC National
  • DBS Clearance (Information Commissioner approval and registration required)
  • Forward thinking and strategically minded individual, who keeps up to date with modern logistical trends and has previous experience in a large scale logistics role
  • Fully conversant in relevant EU legislation with regards to driver’s hour’s law, vehicle maintenance under Operators Licence and legal commitments / working time directive
  • Previous warehouse management experience, including WMS and relevant stock control systems – Knowledge of SEMA guidelines / regulations
  • Ability to negotiate operational requirements and contract terms with third party suppliers
  • Management of large teams, with the ability to manage through people, and communicate at all levels; including people performance and development frameworks / succession planning
  • Ability to analyse results and understand and present findings / reports / presentations at meetings
  • Ability to work at a senior management level and engage peers and stakeholders
  • Member of a professional organisation would be beneficial (Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport / Fleet Transport Association / Road Haulage Association)
  • Fully conversant with all Microsoft applications, including Office 365
  • SIA Non-Frontline licence to manage Security Officers
  • Driving licence with ability to travel as required in the role.
