Learning and Development Manager

Job Introduction

HMP Peterborough are currently recruiting for a Learning and Development Manager.

You will work closely with the senior management team to develop the learning agenda and promote a learning culture within HMP Peterborough. You will promote and develop a learning culture within the establishment by managing a range of learning and development activities which are aligned to the business strategy and comply with contractual and legislative requirements.

HMP Peterborough is the first purpose-built prison in the UK to house both men and women on the same site. This highly innovative prison is designed to a high standard of physical security. Sodexo Justice Services has ensured that the prison provides needs-based personal development services for both men and women.  January 2015 saw the completion of a new houseblock on the male estate which can house an additional 292 residents, along with an educational activities building.

Sodexo Justice delivers custodial and community rehabilitation services that challenge offending behaviour, protect the public and offer individuals the opportunity to change their lives for the better. We deliver the total operation of five prisons within England, Scotland and Wales and own six Community Rehabilitation Companies in partnership with crime reduction charity Nacro.

Role Responsibility

  • Research, devise, implement and manage the local learning and development plan
  • Monitor and proactively manage the establishment’s training budget
  • Proactively work with Senior Managers to understand the short and medium term Learning requirements for the site and take accountability for site Strategy in conjunction with SJS L&D Business Partner and the HRBP
  • Coordinate and manage learning and development solutions in response to assessed operational need, including statutory and mandatory training, mentoring, NVQs and flexible learning options as appropriate
  • Develop and deliver training modules using a variety of training methods to meet a variety of learning styles
  • Implement evaluation strategies to monitor and continuously improve the effectiveness and quality of learning and development solutions
  • Coach employees in business relevant topics, including the Employee Performance Appraisal (EPA), creation of quality career plans using Ingenium and Talent and Succession
  • Ensure accurate records of all training undertaken by all staff at the establishment are maintained by PeopleCentre using SAP, ensuring that PeopleCentre book courses in a timely fashion and associated administration is completed
  • Provide monthly management information as required
  • Ensure equality and inclusion practices are upheld in all L&D activities
  • Take accountability for the Learning Resources including the Learning Suite and the monitoring of any Health & Safety Issues
  • Coordinate and manage the Operational and Non-Operational Training Programmes (Induction training course – ITC); including supporting the recruitment process, welcome Evening’s graduations, for new Non operational, Operational Support and Prisoner Custody Officers in partnership with PeopleCentre Team
  • Responsibility for employee induction and initial development requirements and liaising with managers over requirements for completion of probationary paperwork in accordance with the Policy
  • Act as first point of contact for Auditors regarding learning and development and record audits
  • Assist with the coordination of IIP and Engagement assessments and site actions required to ensure we maintain the standards

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Experience in research, design, coordination and delivery of learning and development solutions
  • Experience in managing expenditure and budgets
  • Strategic thinking and ability to understand business needs and planning
  • Experience of working with stakeholders at all levels of business
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities and manage a diverse remit
  • Ability to manage and maintain L&D information systems

Desirable

  • Experience working in a custodial environment
  • Relevant Training / HR qualification
  • Experience of working within an IiP framework.

Package Description

Up to £30,000 dependent on experience

Monday - Friday - flexibility will be required with regards to hours of work.

23 days holiday (plus 8 bank holidays) benefits including bonus, flex bens (healthcare etc), pension, access to gym, group discount scheme.
