We are proud to present a brand new vacancy for a Laboratory Technician at a leading Pharmaceutical site in Barnard Castle. This is an exciting permanent opportunity with an attractive remuneration package for the successful candidate, along with flexible benefits including access to discounts across various retailers.


The Laboratory Technician is a full time, site based role, supporting the reference materials group.
The reference materials group manage thousands of standards which are distributed globally, therefore, the role offers variation on a daily basis and is a very integrated position working closely with the team.

 

Role Responsibility

  • Daily preparation of eluents, diluents and reagents in accordance with site LSOPs
  • Daily, weekly, monthly calibrations and functionality testing of laboratory equipment
  • HPLC & GC Performance Qualification (PQ) testing after annual Preventative Maintenance (PM) and reactive maintenance.
  • Daily replenishment of laboratory chemicals, solvents and consumables to the predefined cells within the laboratory.
  • Stock check of consumables store, labelling of incoming goods and restocking of shelves including stock rotation.
  • Daily collection and disposal of:
  • Contaminated and non-contaminated sharps and glass waste.
  • Hazardous and non-hazardous solvent waste from laboratory fume cupboards
  • Hazardous and non-hazardous samples post analysis
  • Monthly sterilisation of water still to GxP standards
  • Disposal of solvent waste/standards and pre-rinse of glassware for washing.

Development:
For the successful candidate they will have the opportunity to be developed into an Instrument Support Specialist, where they will gain experience in the following:

  • Maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing of HPLC and GC systems

The Ideal Candidate

We require key personnel with experience in some or all of the following skill sets:

Experience:
Time served experience within a GxP laboratory, preparing eluent, diluent and reagents working in accordance with LSOPs (local standard operating procedures)

Qualifications:
Degree level in Chemistry

Desirable additional skills and experience:

  • Experience in using chromatography equipment ie HPLC and GC
  • Interest in troubleshooting and fault finding
  • Experience in the use of SAP/CERPs/MERPs
  • Good communication and customer focused skills
  • Good knowledge of excel and IT literate.
