Laboratory Technician - GMS

Job Introduction

We currently have an opportunity for a Laboratory Technician to join our team. This is a great opportunity for a customer focused individual to join a world leading food and facilities management company, which can offer unrivalled opportunities for career progression.

Role Responsibility

To provide scientific staff with routine technical support, to ensure that equipment is always available for use and that reagents and other materials are prepared to appropriate standards.

  • Prepare reagents, analytical diluents, biological media and other material for use by scientific staff and deliver to point of use.
  • Ordering and replenishment of laboratory consumable stocks using SAP
  • Routine use of laboratory equipment including balances, pH meters, incubators, automatic liquid handlers and analytical instruments
  • Removal of routine laboratory wastes.
  • Undertake in-lab tasks for scientific staff to agreed protocols. E.g. collection, preparation and distribution of analytical or biological samples.
  • Cleaning and disinfection of laboratory equipment.
  • Autoclaving of experimental equipment.
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness.
  • Liaise directly with GSK staff to ensure continuous quality of service provision.
  • Operate to approved quality standards (e.g. GLP/GMP) Maintain QA systems by keeping accurate records of work undertaken, methods used, and results achieved.  Recording experimental results.

The Ideal Candidate

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • A Level standard or equivalent in a science subject, with minimum qualification of GCSEs grades A-C including a science subject, maths and English.
  • Ideally at least 2 years practical laboratory experience, post qualification.
  • Understand technical customer requirements.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative with prioritising and organising.
  • Ability to give effective feedback to line manager on operational issues.
  • Ability to write technical procedures or safety related documents.
  • Ability to work supportively as part of a team
  • Previous experience in a GxP environment desirable.
  • Good communication skills
  • The post would suit someone who is organised, self motivated and able to work flexibly, depending on team priorities, varying timescales and support requirements.
