Laboratory Assistant

Job Introduction

We are currently looking for a Lab assistant to join our current team whom will be working alongside Unilever Laboratory staff within the Aerosol Development Team. This position is for a 12 Month contract starting January 2017.   The persons we are seeking should have excellent organisation and planning skills together with the ability to work to deadlines and have excellent communication skills both written and verbal.  We are looking for an enthusiastic hands on team player who should have the ability to think on their feet and be able to cope with periods of high pressure in a time sensitive environment.  They will be flexible, proactive and be able interact well within the current team environment. Experience in a similar role would be advantageous however full training will be given.

Role Responsibility

  • Perform simple laboratory tests in order to produce reliable and precise data to support research investigations.
  • Carry out routine tasks accurately and following strict methodologies to carry out analyses;
  • Preparing samples.
  • Maintaining and operating standard laboratory equipment.
  • Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and housekeeping requirements adhered to.
  • Recording and on occasions interpreting results to senior colleagues.
  • Keeping up to date with technical developments within the team and make any recommendations especially those that can save time and improve the service and reliability.
  • Ensure all safety procedures and measures are adhered to at all times.
  • Put in place and manage stock inventories to manage the movement of samples
  • Working with flammable materials and on occasions within a noise sensitive environment.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Working in a similar Research and Development environment would be advantageous.
  • A good understanding of Health & Safety in a laboratory environment would be advantageous.
  • Good level of computer skills.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels.
  • Pro-active attitude.
  • Organisation skills and structured methods of working.
  • Able to plan and prioritise workload accordingly.
  • Excellent administrative skills.
  • Work well on own initiative
  • Portray at all times a professional image to our client.
