Lab Support Coordinator

Job Introduction

We are looking for laboratory support coordinators to support science/research activities at GlaxoSmithKline, enabling smooth facilitation and function of the working environment. The successful candidates will act as the first line of support for infrastructure, engineering, purchasing, IT and other service requests including equipment maintenance/repair. They will play an important role managing consumables, overseeing lab stocks and ensuring appropriate tracking and safe delivery and storage of goods.  Working alongside GSK lab supervisors they will also help coordinate the working environment including overseeing waste removal, availability of PPE and provision of lab services. In addition they will be involved in a wide range of general and technical lab support activities.

 

The role would suit someone with a scientific background who enjoys a support role and who is very customer focused. This would be a good opportunity to gain experience in lab management. Flexibility and a ‘can do’ attitude are vital attributes as well as having a good knowledge of health and safety, being self motivated and working to deadlines. Good communication skills and ability to manage conflicting priorities are also essential.

Role Responsibility

  • To be the single point of contact within the laboratory for infrastructure, engineering, purchasing, IT and other service requests; reporting of faults and ensuring these are closed out in a timely fashion
  • To provide a general induction/orientation for new members of staff
  • To provide co-ordination of a 5S lean service
  • To act as the first line of support for facilitation of equipment maintenance/repair; liaison with LIS
  • To carry out all requests and tasks in a helpful and professional manner, build relationships with key staff and consistently demonstrate a good customer service interface
  • To maintain lab documentation as necessary
  • To manage the ordering of consumables from external suppliers via CERPS and internal orders from site stores using Stockboss
  • To provide a general induction/orientation for new members of staff
  • To co-ordinate/oversee lab stocks through kanban by liaison with site stores
  • Ensures appropriate tracking and safe delivery and storage of goods
  • To co-ordinate the working environment including space and availability of PPE
  • To co-ordinate the removal of waste from labs
  • To carry out regular health & safety inspections
  • To co-ordinate the provision of lab services (e.g., gases/LN2/dry ice/deep cleans) by liaison with lab support services staff
  • To adhere to all company & client policies, procedures, site rules and regulations.
  • To comply with all company & client procedures relating to Health & Safety & safe working practices
  • To represent and promote the Company wherever possible
  • To attend training sessions appertaining to the post and ensure this training is documented in personal training file
  • To perform other reasonable duties as deemed necessary

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Education to ‘A’ Level standard or equivalent in a Science subject, with minimum qualification of four GCSEs grades A-C including Science, Maths and English
  • Good IT skills
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Experience within the pharmaceutical industry
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety
  • Knowledge of databases and ordering systems
  • Self motivated and ability to work under pressure to balance conflicting deadlines
  • Knowledge of chemicals and safe handling
  • Aptitude for technical and practical matters
  • Experience of working in a compliance driven environment
  • Service orientated attitude combined with innovative thinking
  • Strong team player with experience in a high quality customer service operation
  • Able to complete relevant paperwork according to principles of Good Documentation Practice

 

 

Desirable
