Kitchen Porter
Job Introduction
Due to our continued success we are now looking for a number of Kitchen Porters to join our team based at Woldingham School in Caterham. This role will require applicants to undergo screening appropriate to the post, including a full DBS check, paid for by the company.
Role Responsibility
Kitchen Porter responsibilities include:
- To clean allocated pieces of heavy catering equipment using instructions and cleaning materials.
- To dispose of waste materials from catering areas to designated collection points.
- To operate industrial dishwashers in all catering areas.
- To operate mechanical floor scrubbing and steam cleaning equipment.
- To transport provisions, equipment and other catering related items as required.
- To maintain clean working environment at all times, with special regard to hygiene.
- To ensure that all food is prepared in the environment with due care and attention, particularly regarding customers’ special dietary requirements: for example, nut, dairy or wheat allergies.
- To undertake occasional duties outside the normal routine but within the scope of the position and the department’s activities.
- To assist, as required, at special functions, some of which may occur outside normal working hours, for which you will be paid overtime.
- To report any complaint or compliment and take action if at all possible.
- To report any incident of accident, fire, theft, loss, damage and take action as may be appropriate or possible.
- To attend meetings and courses, as required.

- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, clients, and staff
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Literate and Numerate
- Ability to achieve performance criteria, with particular regard to hygiene
- Positive approach to learning in role
- Self-motivated
- Sense of own initiative
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Flexible approach to role
Desirable:
- Hygiene qualification, or equivalent
- Previous catering experience
Package Description
Job Title: Kitchen Porter
Salary: £8.75 per hour
Location: Woldingham School, Caterham
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: Full & part time roles available working 5 days out of 7 including some weekends
Hours of work: 7.00am – 3.30pm or 11.15am – 7.45pm
52 weeks a year
Travel: Morning pick up service available from Woldingham train station
