Job Introduction

HMP Forest Bank are currently recruiting for a Head of Healthcare. 

The Healthcare Service team is central to maintaining prisoner well-being.  Reporting directly to the Deputy Director and Senior Management Team, the Head of Healthcare will lead the healthcare team through a period of development – reinforcing best practice whilst improving service provision to respond comprehensively to the needs of the prisoners, team members and internal/external stakeholders.  This post is open to both Clinical and Non Clinical Managers.

Awarded a bronze accreditation by Investors in People, HMP Forest Bank is one of the largest prisons in the UK and demonstrates custodial excellence in many areas with an emphasis on risk assessment, addressing comprehensive needs and forming strong links with the community outside which all contribute to reducing reoffending.

Sodexo Justice Services delivers custodial and community rehabilitation services that challenge offending behaviour, protect the public and offer individuals the opportunity to change their lives for the better. We deliver the total operation of five prisons within England, Scotland and Wales and own six Community Rehabilitation Companies in partnership with crime reduction charity Nacro.

Role Responsibility

  • Overall responsibility for operational management, development and support of the health services team with the aim of improving healthcare services in line with HMIP and CQC requirements.
  • Provide strategic management support to the Director and Senior Management Team on a range of clinical, operational, people and business issues
  • Lead, inspire and manage the clinical managers and nursing teams – including efficient use of personal development plans, CPD,  NMC Revalidation and non-clinical coaching opportunities
  • Ensure robust Governance is in place and appropriate audit process is undertaken. Improve compliance with clinical standards and governance – including writing and implementing new procedures/guidelines where required
  • To ensure appropriate clinical staff undertake clinics
  •  Provide the provision of management supervision to senior staff.
  •  Ensure clinical supervision is available as required.
  •  Build and maintain effective relationships across the Prison estate and with internal and external agencies
  •  Review the existing procedures within the department, develop a comprehensive delivery plan and then implement improvements
  •  Oversee staffing, recruitment, workforce planning and effective development and integration of services
  •  Ensure a safe and secure working environment for staff and patients 

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (Adult) with current NMC registration OR Suitably skilled and experienced non-clinical senior manager of the right calibre
  • Experience at Senior Nurse Manager level, preferably within a prison health setting
  • Knowledge of clinical substance misuse services
  • A strong and consistent moral compass and the ability to provide value based leadership.
  • Understanding of clinical governance processes
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement in a politicised environment.
  • Ability to network effectively with a range of agencies and organisations.
  • Strong commitment to continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Knowledge of commercial financial management processes and procedures.
  • Risk management skills.
  • Knowledge of clinical IT systems (SystmOne)
  • Knowledge of budget management
  • Educated to Degree/Masters level

Package Description

Salary - £50k (equivalent to AfC Band 8b) plus excellent benefits including free meals, free parking, group discount schemes and pension with 26 days holiday
