Finance Administrator

Job Introduction

HMP Peterborough are currently recruiting for a Finance Administrator.

As a Finance Administrator, you will support to the Head of Business Management and the Deputy Business Manager to take the finance department forward in providing the quality of services to internal and external stakeholders whilst also making sure that demanding targets are met as set.

HMP/YOI Peterborough is the country’s only purpose-built prison for both male and female prisoners (kept separate at all times), including a 12-place mother and baby unit. We are committed to offering education and development programmes to provide residents with the skills required to enter employment on release, so reducing the chances of further offending. Providing creative outlets, such as workshop activities, helps to equip those in custody for when they are released. We use ‘Restorative Approaches’ to bring people in conflict into dialogue. Using a skilled and structured process, those who have been harmed have an opportunity to be heard and those that have caused the harm are held to account for what they have done. We have strong links with the community outside through a variety of partnerships, including our outreach activity Outside Links’ offering support and advice to both residents and their families.

Role Responsibility

  • Record all transactions on CMS accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all monies are processed and recorded accurately and process all receptions monies on arrival.
  • Use of PNOMIS to transfer prisoners into prison.
  • Input loans on to the CMS and process received cheques from other prisons.
  • Create and maintain PIN phone accounts including inter-prison phonecalls and foreign national.
  • Prepare all discharge monies on prisoner release.
  • Raise cheques to be forwarded to other prisons.
  • Repay loans and advances on CMS.
  • Process and respond to any complaints and applications.
  • Ensure swift and timely resolution to all finance related queries.  
  • Maintain valuables and cash records and safeguarding valuables & cash through robust control system & reconciliation process.
  • Support Deputy Business Manager with processing of hotel and travel requests, Stocktake Audits, Petty cash and expenses, reconciling purchase orders and vendor invoices..

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Outlook and Excel).
  • Good inter-personal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and meet targets and to respond effectively to changing priorities.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • A good eye for detail.

Desirable

  • Relevant experience in a finance and or prison environment is desirable along with including any relevant administrative or finance qualifications.

Package Description

Salary £18,939.78 per annum

Benefits including 28 days holiday (inclusive of bank holidays),pension, discounted health cover, subsidised gym membership, childcare voucher scheme, free meals on duty and free on-site parking
