Job Introduction

HMP Northumberland are recruiting for a Driver to drive the prison minibus, primarily to transport prisoners (under the supervision of prison custody officers) to external appointments.

This includes various educational and vocational qualifications, as well as a variety of opportunities for residents to learn new skills within our workshops and industries departments. We have textile, engineering and electrical workshops and can offer prisoners experience in horticulture, market gardens, cleaning, waste management and laundry services on site.

Being over 4 miles in circumference, the prison is a vast space with exceptionally kept plantation and currently houses over 1300 residents with a range of sentence terms.

Role Responsibility

• Drive the prison minibus, primarily to transport prisoners (under the supervision of prison custody officers) to external appointments
• Support the quality of life of residents by providing a decent and efficient service which allows them to access external healthcare appointments;
• Help residents maintain their family ties by supporting visits to seriously ill relatives and funerals
• May occasionally be required to undertake other journeys with or without passengers as directed by the Staff Delivery Unit Manager

The Ideal Candidate

• Must be at least 25 years of age (for insurance purposes)
• Must have held a full driving license for at least 2 years
• Must have no licence endorsements
• Must be security cleared to enhanced level
• Be prepared to undertake relevant security training, including personal protection training.

Package Description

£16,306.74 per annum
