Deputy Head of OMU (Fixed term contract)

Job Introduction

HMP Northumberland are currently recruiting for a Deputy Head of OMU on a 6 month fixed term contract basis.

You will create an overarching framework that allows contracted and partner agencies to come together to ensure that the offenders whose crimes cause most damage and harm are managed in a co-ordinated way. 

You will also offer, promote and deliver diverse offender management approaches, reflecting local priorities.  Support the Director and Deputy Director and Head of offender management in developing and delivering strategic priorities at HMP Northumberland in accordance with Company values and wider HMPPS directions.

HMP Northumberland is the newest addition to the SJS estate.  Our aim is to introduce the technology and initiatives that have been so successful in our other prisons whilst providing real work opportunities for prisoners which match those available in the community.

Sodexo Justice Services delivers custodial and community rehabilitation services that challenge offending behaviour, protect the public and offer individuals the opportunity to change their lives for the better. We deliver the total operation of five prisons within England, Scotland and Wales and own six Community Rehabilitation Companies in partnership with crime reduction charity Nacro.

Role Responsibility

  • When necessary take command of complex operational incidents and participate in incident management as required.
  • Work with the Head of Offender Management to anticipate risks (operational, financial, contractual and reputational), devising and implementing appropriate proactive strategies.
  • With guidance from the Head of Offender Management, plan, supervise, coordinate and continuously review the smooth running of the Offender management function.
  • Work in partnership with the community rehabilitation company and supply chain to continue to develop service delivery and integration opportunities.
  • Working with the Head of offender management and in accordance with the Company Policy and the requirements of the authority, contribute to the development of policies and procedures for the effective delivery of all elements of offender management.
  • Continually review the skills and competencies of the staff team, addressing performance and development issues proactively.
  • Ensure that prisoner care is of the highest possible standard.
  • Provide leadership and act as a role model to staff and prisoners.
  • Assist with the management of Offender management and Resettlement, ensuring cohesion within the wider prison objectives and SMT.
  • Support the delivery of Health and Safety, Equality & Inclusion and Safer Custody of prisoners and the effective deployment of staff.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills
  • Proven track record in prison operational experience
  • Experience and understanding of managing incidents
  • Leadership and relationship management
  • Credibility and authenticity
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Experience in contractual compliance and delivery.
  • Knowledge of Offender management

The successful candidate does not have to be trained in adjudications or incident management, although this would be advantageous.

Package Description

Up to £42,000 plus excellent benefits including free parking, group discount schemes and pension with 20 days holiday (plus bank holidays).

Work shifts to cover Duty Manager, including weekends
