Courier Transport Driver

Job Introduction

Role Responsibility

  • To be responsible for driving vehicles in a safe and reliable manner, maintaining high levels of concentration whilst in the vehicle to ensure a continued high standard of driving.
  • Be responsible for the safe loading and unloading of vehicles ensuring that correct storage and delivery procedures are followed at all times. This work involves moving and manual handling of goods of various weights and sizes. Care and attention must be given at all times to your own health and safety and that of other Hospital/Trust users to avoid injuries. All Sodexo and local procedures and guidelines relating to your duties must be followed.
  • Deliver and collect parcels, mail, equipment, pathology specimens, confidential information/Medical records, Sterile Service Department equipment and pharmacy items, in accordance with agreed delivery schedules.
  • Ensure that unattended vehicles are secure at all times to prevent theft of goods breach of security of patient information.
  • Be vigilant at all times to ensure that all goods, confidential information, stores, pharmacy and medical items are delivered to the correct location to maintain the security of patient information.
  • Handle pathology specimens correctly to avoid hazards of exposure to infection and disease for staff, patients and the general public.
  • Be responsible for regular checks of the vehicles as instructed. These checks must include oil, water and tyre inspection. Report to the Logistics Supervisor, any defect that may render the vehicle unsafe or un-roadworthy.
  • Wash vehicles as required, maintaining exterior coachwork and internal fabrics in a clean and presentable condition.
  • Ensure collections and deliveries are made in line with current schedules and staff rotas.
  • The job requires delivery/collection to health care environments and couriers may come into contact with patients with mental health problems and various disabilities.
  • Certain driving conditions may expose couriers to stressful circumstances, such as poor driving conditions due to inclement weather, road works, traffic accidents, other driver’s actions and general traffic volume. The post holder will be required to always maintain a calm and rational approach under such circumstances in keeping to schedules.
  • Maintain a smart appearance at all times, communicating pleasantly and politely with all persons using the transport service.
  • There is no smoking permitted in the vehicles or trust premises.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate for this role will have:

  • Full, clean driving licence
  • Previous experience of driving and using a tail lift
  • A flexible "can do" attitude Communicate effectively with a wide range of customers and multi-service team to achieve results
  • Strong customer services skills and experience Service orientated attitude combined with innovative thinking
  • Strong team player within a high quality customer service operation
