Costa Supervisor

Job Introduction

We currently have an opportunity for a Costa Supervisor to join our team. This is a great opportunity for a customer focused individual to join a world leading food and facilities management company, which can offer unrivalled opportunities for career progression.

Role Responsibility

1. Communication & Relationship Skills.

  • Good interpersonal skills at all levels
  • Ability to be an effective team player
  • Experience of supervising employees within a service environment and maximising the performance of the team
  • Exchange information with retail staff in relation to rotas, catering service and training matters. This is to include maintaining: Costa brand standards, cash handling procedures, retail standards, ensuring correct uniform and friendly courteous manner to customers and high standards of food safety and health and safety standards.

2. Knowledge, Training and Experience.  

  • Knowledge of work procedures, practices and equipment for a catering/retail service including: intermediate food hygiene certificate, experience of manual handling training, ensuring staff observe strict security procedures when dealing with cash transactions, aware of the impact of CQUIN and allergens on a healthcare based retail setting.

3. Analytical and Judgement Skills.  

  • Resolving staffing issues, reorganise service delivery at short notice to ensure standards are maintained.
  • Compile work rotas, authorise annual leave and arrange day to day cover for unplanned absence.
  • Maintain all materials to the agreed stock holding level ensuring a plentiful supply of goods to meet customer needs. 

4. Planning & Organisational Skills  

  • To compile and organise monthly training sessions with staff to cover areas specified in training record cards
  • Organise a timetable of on the job training to cover all aspects of the job with a view to compiling work schedules.
  • Compile daily and weekly staff rotas and ensure that they are adhered to and the keeping of up to date staff holiday charts.
  • Compile daily and weekly cleaning schedules and ensure they are carried out by regular daily checks covering all areas.

5. Physical Skills. 

  • Administrative and computer skills essential to support, KRONOS, Stock Taking, Stock Transfers, Waste management.
  • Safe use of Catering and retail equipment

6. Responsibility for Delivering Retail Standards. 

  • Provide retail service to all service users in accordance with agreed specification to achieve high standard of service and ensure Sodexo monitoring audits are passed to a high standard.

7. Responsibility for Financial and Physical Resources. 

  • Ensure the relevant book keeping and quality and monitoring systems are completed to the specified standard, in particular wages, labour and income control and raw material control.
  • Report and record any mechanical or electrical defects and the need for repair.
  • Ensure compliance with cash handling procedures and be accountable for the accuracy of the cash takings.
  • Check and be responsible for the receiving and storing of all purchases and overall security of staff during working hours on duty.
  • Ensure safe use of a range of kitchen equipment and appliances.

8. Responsibility for Human Resources. 

  • Daily responsibility for leading a team of retail staff in retail function.
  • Line management responsibility for the Retail staff including training and development events in support of the role.
  • Report accidents or injuries in accordance with company procedures.

9. Responsibility for information Resources. 

  • Ensuring food is served at the correct temperature by daily maintaining and compilation of temperature check sheets in line with assured safe catering system.
  • Complete monitoring as required throughout all areas of responsibility
  • General assistance with associated administration duties.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate records in accordance with company procedures
  • Ensure the immediate reporting to the facilities management helpdesk of any incidents such as accidents, fire, theft, loss, damage or other irregularities and take action that may be recommended as a result of investigation of these incidents.
  • Report any mechanical or electrical defects to line manager or senior manager in line manager’s absence. .

10. Responsibility for Research and Development. 

  • Carry out routine quality control audits and measure customer satisfaction levels of each aspect of the catering services.
  • Participate in staff surveys as required.

11. Freedom to Act. 

  • Take appropriate action to ensure operation in all health, hygiene and food preparation and service procedure referring to the line manager as necessary.
  • Ensure all services are directed and provided within the laid down operational procedures in particular being hands on at peak service times.

12. Physical, Mental & Emotional Effort. 

  • Walking around the site, sitting at a computer, standing. Some manual handling of stores and equipment.
  • Concentration required when checking stores and equipment, completing forms, using machinery, compiling rotas, completing audits.
  • Carrying out disciplinary / counselling and appraisals for staff.
  • Training of staff.
  • Impart news regarding performance or operational issues to staff.
  • Be able to work under pressure and be flexible, including work at weekends and bank holidays
  • Work as part of a team
  • Some requirement to be in a hot humid kitchen environment.

  • Previous Supervisory experience essential
