Apprentice Commis Chef

Job Introduction

Job Purpose

Led by and working alongside our Chef manager , the successful applicant with be involved with both hot & cold food production and service at our Knead Street Deli Staff Restaurant

To produce all catering services at the required times to the company’s standards, within the agreed specification and to the agreed performance, qualitative and financial targets.

Role Responsibility

Preparation and service of a full cooked Breakfast.


Assisting our Chef and the wider Catering team with fresh food preparation, working to recipe cards and a Menu Cycle.


Assisting in the preparation of our daily Salad Bar.


Supporting the planning & production of our fresh daily Merry Chef Sandwich offer.


We offer a daily street food choice keeping in line with market trends, so the apprentice should be passionate about food quality & presentation.


Various cooking processes will be used so an understanding of different cooking methods and procedures will be required.


A tidy work ethic will be required as this is a newly refurbished facility.

The successful applicant will receive full training and be required to work to strict Food Hygiene Standards & Health Safety polices / procedures.
Our apprentice will support our Chef with food orders and stock, so after training needs a good understanding of stock control, stock rotation, stock taking, ordering and general kitchen compliance / processes.


The apprentice will be expected to use all our Catering equipment such as blenders, mixers, fryers, combination ovens, steamers, grills, induction hobs, hot counters & bain-marie's etc. So a mature attitude towards working safely is essential.


A good customer approach & good communication skills are also essential.

Hard working and positive. Have a can-do attitude. Good timekeeping and attendance. Confident enough to handle and resolve issues, to the required outcome. Passionate about standards and have good attention to detail. A willingness to learn. Pride in personal appearance.

Skills Required :
Team player. Flexible approach. Good communication skills. Able to work unsupervised and able to use own initiative. Able to keep and work calmly under pressure. A General interest for good and pride in their work and appearance. Be able to work to and meet deadlines.

Training to be Provided :
Commis Chef apprenticeship including Functional Skills Maths (Level 1), Functional Skills English (Level 1)
