ASU Technical Officer

Job Introduction

Sodexo are looking for a an individual to work in the Logistic Support Unit on Merville Barracks, home to the British Army’s rapid response brigade, your main role is to deliver an outstanding service to the Service Families within the Colchester area.

Being an active part of a team of Store Accountants, Storemen, Driver/Labours, furniture fitters and Support Staff, you will play a crucial role in achieving Sodexo’s mission statement of being a world leader in quality of life services.

Your role will require you to account for PAYD assets in a manual and computer account form, familiar with, store accounting procedures and able to work unsupervised. Interacting with our customers is a key part of your role.

Role Responsibility

  • To ensure the correct use, storage and control of machinery, equipment, cleaning materials and chemicals by the team; following safe methods of work always in line with company policy and procedure.
  • To control and account for all waste disposal under the MOD contact for the following: (Including Woodbridge & Wattisham)

               a.  Waste Oil

               b.  WEEE

               c. Used Tyres.

               d. Vehicle batteries (Various types)

               e. Scrap metal.

  • To monitor and supervise the fire alarm checks and the fire fighting equipment within the LSU
  • To carry out annual environmental protection inspection of the LSU
  • To report all helpdesk calls on time and appropriately pertaining to the LSU/Warehouse. To liaise with external agencies on any matters pertaining to the structure of the LSU warehouse and outside areas when required.
  • Carry out in-process inspections of waste area, main office, electrical store, cleaning compound, and tyre compound and mattress store.
  • To assist the Logistic Support Branch on all Logistic Support Inspections.
  • To order and account for all ICRL (PAYD) equipment.
  • Identify and deliver (where appropriate) any need for staff training and development, recording and maintaining records of this within training records.
  • To help to efficiently train the ASU staff in all the training requirements.
  • To continue to develop one’s own skills and knowledge within the position, including any required training courses
  • To maintain excellent client/customer relationships
  • To attend team briefs, huddles and meetings as required
  • To attend your performance development review to discuss job standards and agree development activities
  • To maintain a clean and tidy work area always
  • To maintain high levels of personal hygiene and wear the appropriate uniform and PPE as required
  • To care for all available resources including equipment, materials and supplies as directed
  • To report any near miss occurrences, accidents or faulty equipment to management
  • To ensure effective communication with line manager, team, customer and client organisation
  • To maintain all areas of responsibility to the set service standards and in line with applicable service offer
  • To Cover PFI fitter section when fitters go on holiday or sickness

The Ideal Candidate

  • Good numerical and communication skills, must be able to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication
  • Knowledge of health & safety
  • Able to work on own initiative within a team environment
  • Able to demonstrate attention to detail and adherence to standards
  • Computer Literate
  • IOSH qualifications or equivalent
