Operational Support Officer

Job Introduction

We are currently looking to recruit Operational Support Officers to provide efficient and effective support throughout the Prison Extension Programme. Your primary role will be to assist the project team throughout the build project, maintaining security, surveillance and ensuring all contractors and visitors are escorted and supervised whilst in the establishment. If you are successful in the selection process in this role, you will begin 2 weeks professional training, in order to carry out all aspects of the role successfully.

Role Responsibility

  • Promote Equality and Inclusion.
  • Postively promote all aspects Health and Safety.
  • Adhere to all relevant Prison Service Orders
  • Complete any other task deemed necessary by the Senior Officer or Operations Manager.
  • To maintain the security of the gate by:
  • Operating the pedestrian and vehicle access control panel in the gate area
  • Searching vehicles and visitors that enter and exit the prison
  • Ensuring that only authorised personnel enter and exit the gate area,  and by checking appropriate identification
  • Issuing keys/radios to authorised personnel, ensuring that keys are returned to the key safe in return for a tally
  • Keeping an accurate prison roll
  • To maintain the CCTV video library
  • To patrol the perimeter of the prison and grounds and report any concerns/problems to the communications room
  • To be alert and vigilant at all times, reporting breaches of security to the Security Department and the Orderly Officer immediately. Breaches of Health & Safety must be reported immediately to the Orderly Officer and the Health & Safety manager
  • To deal with staff, visitors and prisoners in line with Sodexo values (respect, rights and responsibilities) and treat everyone in a professional and polite manner
  • To carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by a manager at HMP Peterborough
